Cold Sores can be one of the most painful things to happen on your face and also one of the most debilitating in terms of how you feel about yourself because it makes you feel like everyone can see it and it can also make you feel unloveable and unattractive, at least that’s what happens to me when I get one, I instantly feel down and out.
The following 2 tips are ones that I use when I don’t have access to Zovirax or I’ve missed the “tingle” phase:
- I eat high lysine (protein) foods as they help to prevent the cold sore from becoming a full blown outbreak. You can find lysine based creams in your local pharmacy as well, applies to the area as well.High lysine foods include meat and dairy products. Also, in conjunction with eating high lysine foods, AVOID high arginine foods such as nuts, seeds, grains and chocolate as these speed up the cold sore outbreak.
- As soon as I feel the cold sore coming on, I instantly apply ice or something cold to the area, a can of coke will do! Leave this on as long as possible, a good 5-10 minutes is best. If you feel the area tingling again or ‘feel’ the cold sore coming through, instantly apply the ice again, leaving it on for as long as you can stand. Repeat every 2-3 hours on the first day of the outbreak.
By applying these 2 tips, you can help to prevent a cold sore outbreak without having to take any medication.
